Location: Taiwan
Company: synera
Summary:
Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) is a leading offshore wind developer with a portfolio of projects across Taiwan and Asia. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead the electrical engineering team and take technical ownership of the onshore and offshore substation (ONS/OSS) electrical scope, from development and procurement through detailed design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and handover.
Working closely with the ONS and OSS Package Managers, you will lead the developer’s electrical engineering oversight of EPCI contractors and equipment suppliers, ensuring safe, compliant and integrated designs that meet project performance, reliability and operability requirements. You will manage electrical interfaces across substations, cables, wind turbine generators and the grid connection, and drive the resolution of technical risks and design issues.
The initial focus will be on defining technical requirements, supporting procurement and contract negotiations, and progressing engineering to meet project and financial close milestones. As the project advances into execution, the role will extend to manufacturing oversight, installation support, testing, energisation and commissioning.
Scope Description:
As a key member of the Synera Renewable Energy team, your role will encompass the following:
- Lead and develop a team of HV, MV and LV electrical engineers, setting clear responsibilities, priorities and technical standards.
- Act as the developer’s electrical technical lead for the ONS and OSS packages, coordinating with Package Managers, EPCI contractors, equipment suppliers, certification bodies and the grid operator.
- Define and maintain electrical design criteria, technical specifications and employer’s requirements, ensuring alignment with project objectives and contractual obligations.
- Lead electrical technical bid evaluations and provide input into procurement decisions, contract negotiations, equipment warranties and performance guarantees.
- Oversee contractor designs and electrical studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, earthing, insulation coordination, harmonics and grid compliance.
- Drive safety by design, ensuring electrical hazards are identified and eliminated or mitigated throughout construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
- Manage electrical interfaces across ONS, OSS, cables, WTG, SCADA and grid connection scopes, ensuring clear responsibilities and consistent technical requirements.
- Lead the resolution of electrical design issues, technical queries and non-conformities, and assess the technical implications of proposed changes and variations.
- Identify and manage electrical engineering risks, including equipment performance, design maturity, grid compliance, certification and energisation readiness.
- Plan and monitor engineering deliverables, review priorities and resources to support procurement, financial close and execution milestones.
- Provide technical support to the Package Managers and commercial and legal teams in contract administration, change management and claims evaluation.
- Oversee electrical inspection and testing requirements, including factory and site acceptance tests, and support installation, energisation and commissioning activities.
- Ensure designs provide safe access, maintainability and reliable operation, incorporating input from operations and maintenance teams.
- Verify the completeness of electrical documentation, test records and outstanding technical actions before handover.
- Embed lessons learned and consistent engineering practices across projects.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or power systems engineering, or equivalent relevant qualifications; a master’s degree would be an advantage.
- At least 10 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, including substantial experience in offshore wind, high-voltage substations or comparable power infrastructure.
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and overseeing contractors’ electrical designs on complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of HV, MV and LV systems, including transformers, switchgear, protection and control, earthing, auxiliary power systems and SCADA interfaces.
- Demonstrated experience reviewing power system studies and translating their findings into design requirements and technical decisions.
- Experience delivering electrical engineering across multiple project phases, from specification and procurement through installation, testing, energisation and commissioning.
- Proven ability to prepare technical tender documentation, lead bid evaluations and provide technical input into major supply and EPCI contracts.
- Practical experience embedding safety by design, including electrical risk assessments, safe isolation, earthing and arc-flash risk management.
- Strong understanding of grid connection requirements, applicable international electrical standards and certification processes; experience with Taiwanese requirements would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to manage technical interfaces, resolve complex engineering issues and assess the implications of design changes.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear technical recommendations to project leadership.
- Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken; Mandarin proficiency would be an advantage.
- Willingness to be based in Taipei and travel to supplier facilities, fabrication yards and project sites as required.
