Summary:
Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) is seeking a Lead Protection Engineer specializing in offshore wind projects to join our team in Taipei, Taiwan. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing electrical protection systems to ensure the safety and reliability of our offshore wind installations. This role requires close collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders throughout the project's lifecycle.
Scope Description:
As a key member of the Synera Renewable Energy team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the design and development of electrical protection systems for offshore wind turbines, substations, and associated transmission infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. 
  • Conduct power system studies, including fault current analysis, relay coordination, and load flow studies, to optimize protection schemes and enhance system reliability. 
  • Perform technical reviews of electrical designs for wind turbine generators, electrical service platforms, and subsea power cables to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards. 
  • Develop and execute testing and commissioning plans for protection systems, including configuring and programming protective relays and automation systems. 
  • Provide technical support for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical protection systems to ensure continuous and efficient operation. 
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including protection settings, single-line diagrams, and operation manuals, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for relevant stakeholders. 
  • Ensure all protection systems comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations, and participate in audits and inspections as required. 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, mechanical & electrical engineers, and external contractors, to ensure seamless integration of protection systems within overall project designs. 
  • Review Design Risk Assessments and Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies for installation equipment design and offshore installation operations.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, providing a strong technical foundation in electrical protection systems. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical protection systems, preferably within the offshore wind or power generation industry, with experience in Siemens or Hitachi Energy systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection principles, relay coordination, fault analysis, and experience with relevant software tools for system modeling and analysis. 
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to electrical protection systems in offshore wind applications. 
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential risks. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to convey technical information effectively to diverse stakeholders. 
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, fostering a cooperative and productive work environment. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail in design, analysis, and documentation tasks to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements. 
  • Willingness to undertake domestic and international travel to project sites as required, and the ability to adapt to varying work environments. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and specialized engineering software used for electrical system analysis and design. 
  • Demonstrated trustworthiness and transparency in professional dealings, maintaining high ethical standards.
  • Based in Taipei, Taiwan, or willing to relocate.
