Synera Renewable Energy (SRE) is seeking a Subsea Cables Transport & Installation (T&I) Lead to join our team in Taipei, Taiwan. The successful candidate will oversee the development and execution of the Subsea Cables T&I scope, managing both technical and commercial aspects to ensure successful project delivery. This role requires close collaboration with various internal and external stakeholders throughout the project's lifecycle.
Scope Description:
As a key member of the Synera Renewable Energy team, your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the Subsea Cables Package Manager in delivering projects, with overall responsibility for the design, specification, procurement, and management of the subsea cables T&I scope during both development and execution phases.
- In collaboration with the Subsea Cables Package Manager and Contract Manager, leading the tendering, negotiation, and recommendation processes for subsea cable installation contractors and suppliers, from initial engagement through to contract award.
- Reviewing and providing recommendations on contractors' and suppliers' proposals to ensure alignment with project program, quality, and budgetary requirements.
- Assessing the technical feasibility and risks associated with contractors' and suppliers' proposals, ensuring all risks are identified, evaluated, and understood.
- Providing support to the Permitting team to obtain necessary permits and approvals from local authorities.
- Managing schedules of relevant subsea cables T&I suppliers and contractors to identify and address timing and interface issues, collaborating with planning and interface management functions within the projects.
- Identifying and reporting significant technical risks to the Subsea Cables Package Manager and developing contingency plans as part of the overall risk management process.
- Identifying potential program issues, engineering challenges, and risks, and assessing their impact on program and budget.
- Managing interfaces with other project packages, including cross-discipline cooperation with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Fabrication, and other project team personnel.
- Coordinating with supporting functions such as Contracts, Finance, and Permits to ensure alignment on all aspects related to the subsea cables T&I package.
- Managing offshore installation contractors, vessel suppliers, and Marine Warranty Surveyors (MWS).
- Selecting and managing Client’s Representatives for subsea cables T&I activities.
- Managing and reviewing design development for all aspects related to the subsea cables T&I package.
- Challenging scope specifications to identify opportunities for cost reduction and value addition.
- Collaborating with the Subsea Cables Package Manager and Contract Manager to mitigate claims and address cost disputes with third-party suppliers.
- Controlling expenditures against the approved project budget in close liaison with the Contract Manager and Cost Controller.
- Driving best-in-class quality and safety standards across all project phases.
- Conducting Hazard Identification (HAZID) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies for installation equipment design and offshore installation operations and reviewing Design Risk Assessments for specialized equipment.
- Coordinating and attending inspections of vessels assigned to the projects.
- Working closely with the HSE Manager, Quality Manager, and the wider project team to ensure compliance with project QA/QC and HSE requirements by suppliers and contractors.
- Continuously sharing knowledge, including maintaining regularly updated Lessons Learned registers.
Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- A relevant bachelor's or master's engineering degree, providing a strong technical foundation in understanding interfaces in large Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) projects.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in relevant fields, such as complex EPCI construction projects or large infrastructure projects.
- Prior experience as a T&I Manager or Lead Engineer for a subsea cables T&I scope during both development and construction phases is required; experience in Taiwan is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of supply chain contract management fundamentals, best practices, and industry trends, with an understanding of contract law (preferably BIMCO, FIDIC, and/or LOGIC contract styles).
- High level of knowledge of lifting and marine operations standards.
- Understanding of HSE management principles.
- Ability and interest to delve into complex contractual and technical challenges.
- Excellent cooperation and collaboration skills; a team player willing and able to work with others to solve problems and share knowledge.
- Comfortable flagging problems when they arise and asking for help when needed.
- Ability to be proactive while working remotely or independently.
- Culturally aware with a high level of emotional intelligence to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
- Proven ability to manage ambiguity and to shape processes and systems where they do not yet exist.
- Ability to analyze and summarize complex topics and aggregate decision-relevant information to convey messages clearly and concisely.
- Willingness to undertake frequent domestic travel to the project site.
- Above-average computer skills, including proficiency with key Microsoft Office software: Outlook, Excel, Word, and the Microsoft online ecosystem (Teams, SharePoint).
